Huck Tritsch is a fiddler and percussionist from Millheim, PA. Huck began studying both classical violin and oldtime fiddle at a young age. He has studied with Judy Hyman of the Horse Flies, from whom he learned an expansive repertoire of oldtime fiddle tunes and gained a knowledge of the oldtime music tradition. Huck’s fiddling blends a powerfully rhythmic oldtime style with strong backgrounds in classical technique, bluegrass, and jazz improvisation. Huck won first place in the Appalachian String Band Music Festival Youth Fiddle Contest in 2019 and 2022, and his band The Wild Shoats won first place in the Neo-Traditional Band Contest in 2023. Huck was the recipient of the 2024 IBMA Bluegrass College Scholarship. With distinguished folk musician Jake Blount, Huck has performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk, at the International Bluegrass Music Association World of Bluegrass Festival, The Gonda Theater at Georgetown University, and the Mansion at Strathmore. Huck can be heard performing around the east coast with the Wild Shoats, who released their debut album in early 2025. Huck is also a 2024 and 2025 YoungArts National Competition winner in jazz percussion, and he has performed with the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association All-State Jazz Band. He is currently attending Temple University pursuing a degree in jazz studies.
