Guitar, Mandolin & Singing


Debra Clifford is an award winning Lonesome Sister with Sarah Hawker, voted best acoustic duo of 2006 by Gibson Guitars and recording 7 CD’s, which can be found here. Although not currently traveling, they are still making CD's. She plays mandolin, guitar, clawhammer banjo and tenor guitar, and sings lead and harmony in The Farwells. She is also is a member of Old Buck String Band, having recorded a CD with that band: Emily Schaad, Riley Baugus & Sabra Guzman. She has taught mandolin, singing and guitar at old time music camps and workshops here and abroad, including Ashokan Southern Week and Wheatland. She is the owner of the Old Time Traveling Music School with Val Mindel, and has toured with Ginny Hawker & Tracy Schwarz. She is also the owner of Ancestorville, a facebook town with 60,000 members.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

Old Time Rhythm (All Levels): This is open to all old time instruments, guitar, string bass, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, ukes. We will work with an old time fiddler and talk the beat, how to think of rhythm and overall awareness to enhance your playing experience.

Old Time Trance Jam (All Levels): An open to all instruments jam where we will trance out on a few tunes for long periods, talk rhythm and just have fun.

Guitar:

Old Time Guitar 1 (Adv Beg) We'll talk chords, rhythm, runs, the beat and get playing right away.

Old Time Guitar 2 (Int/Adv): See above.

Singing:

Old Time Ballads (All Levels): A singing class with an emphasis on how to find old time ballads to sing, how to think about them, the melody, who the old time ballad singers are and general history and sources.

Old Time Singing (All Levels): talk about harmony, where to find material, work on some songs and look at Appalachian singers to listen too, some listening to material will happen too. A general overview.
